Surprisingly, phage predation was shown to modulate non-target bacteria through inter-bacterial interactions, resulting in blooms and attrition of certain species. The abundance of tailed bacteriophages in the human gut suggests that transduction could act as a significant mode of HGT in the gut microbiome.
